About Me

Educational History:

My entire PreK – 12th Grade was right here at Dayton ISD, which means I was a Jr. High student at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High.

After high school, I attended Texas A&M during my freshman year of college, then transferred to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) in Waxahachie, TX to complete my associate’s and bachelor's degrees. In the fall of 2017 I went back to SAGU to pursue a master’s of arts degree in organizational leadership, which I completed in May of 2020.

Degrees and Certifications:

Associates of Arts: Biblical Studies (2009)

Southwestern Assemblies of God University – Waxahachie, TX

Bachelor of Arts: Church Leadership/Ministry (2011)

Southwestern Assemblies of God University – Waxahachie, TX

Master of Arts: Organizational Leadership (2020)

Southwestern Assemblies of God University – Waxahachie, TX

Certified SYMBIS Coach – “Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts” by Dr. Les Perrot.

Current Position:

This is my first year of teaching. However, this is not my first experience of being involved in middle school I served as a long-term substitute teacher for inclusion at Cedar Creek Middle School in Bastrop ISD – Bastrop, TX.

Currently, I teach 6th and 7th Grade Mathematics.

Previous Position:

For the last decade, I have served in full-time ministry across the state of Texas. My roles have allowed me to travel the world and step foot in over 17 countries, primarily in Pacific Asia. Many of the 17 countries I’ve been privileged to visit multiple times, specifically Vietnam, which I’ve spent about 5 months in over 6 trips.

Family Information:

My wife, Morgan and I married in December of 2015. We have one daughter, Matilda, who just turned 12 months. My wife’s family has been in Dayton for many years and Kimmie Brown Elementary is named after her great-grandmother.

We have one dog named Mabel, a female Goldendoodle (part golden retriever, part poodle).

Personal Information:

I serve as Treasurer on the Board of Refining Fire Ministries, Inc., a prayer initiative across the USA, Treasurer of the Board for Extreme Team Sports, Inc., a youth sports league that has served South East TX for over 15 years, and just finished serving on the Alumni Board of Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

In my spare time I enjoy BBQ-ing, amateur carpentry working and spending time with my family. We are big Disney fans and have been to Disney World – Florida, Disneyland Shanghai, and Disneyland Hong Kong.

In addition to these activities, I blog and maintain a personal website at www.jtaylorchoate.com
