7th Grade ELA
I grew up in Houston, Texas attending Spring Branch Independent School District. I graduated from Spring Woods High School. After school activities were important to me, so I participated in band all four years, I also participated in French Club, SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), and student council.
As a proud Houston Cougar, I graduated from the University of Houston with a B. S. in Education with specializations in Englsih and science and a minor in Englsih. My favorite classes were Romantic poetry and animal behavior. I also participated in the Cougar Band for a year.
B. S. in education certified to teach:
After rmy first year of teaching, I participated a two week training class called Abydos. It was an intensive writing class that trained me to be not just a great teacher for writing, but it also taught me the writing process through the learners' eyes.
I have alos particiapated in many science classes, including Project Raintree which taught me great interactive ways to teach science.
2013 - 2014 was my first year of teaching in Dayton ISD. I taught 8th grade English Language Arts.
I started teaching in 2000 in Spring, Texas. I taught 4th grade language arts, science and social studies. As a firm believer in after school activities, I co-founded the first elementary cheerleading program in the district.
I then moved to Harmony School of Excellence, a college prep charter school in Houston. I taught 6th and 8th grade English Language Arts for two years and also founded a cheerleading program there.
The following year I taught 2nd grade for a year. Wow was that a change! It was a great experience to grasp the foundations of language development and number sense.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy cooking and light gardening.
