Dress Code

Standardized Dress Code 2024 – 2025

We expect students to come to school in clothes that are clean and neat, and we expect students to exhibit basic cleanliness and grooming that will not be a health or safety threat to themselves or to other students or staff. We do not permit students to wear clothing with pictures, emblems, or writing that is lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene or that advertises or depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other substance that students are prohibited from having or using at school. The principal makes decisions about dress and grooming violations.

Male students must wear clean clothing (shirt, slacks, jeans, shorts, trousers) that is not torn or damaged. Female students must wear clean clothing (dress, blouse, shirt, skirt, shorts, slacks, jeans) that is not excessively torn or damaged. Pants must be worn with the waist at waist level, and shirts or blouses must be buttoned. All students must wear shoes and appropriate undergarments. At grades 6-12, shorts Dayton ISD Secondary Student Handbook Page 51 and skirts must be no shorter than 2 inches above the knees. Leggings (including wide bottom flares), jeggings, or tights may not be worn.

  • Collared or T-shirts, short or long sleeves OR Spirit Shirts, representing Dayton ISD, in the appropriate grade color.
    • 6th grade- Gray
    • 7th grade- Black
    • 8th grade- Dayton purple or medium to dark lavender. No maroon, burgundy, pink, etc.
  • Shirts or blouses may not reveal undergarments or cleavage. Midriff-length tops that leave exposed skin, spaghetti strap,s or halter tops are not permitted
  • Undershirts – worn under hoodies, sweaters, or jackets must be the color of standardized dress shirts.
  • Pants, capris, skirts, or shorts – must be one solid color only; without distracting prints. No camouflage pants. Clothing must not be excessively torn or damaged.
  • Jackets/Sweatshirts – All jackets and sweatshirts must be in appropriate grade-level color.
  • Shoes – must have a closed toe with a back. Crocs must be worn with a strap on the heel. No high heels or platform shoes
  • Backpacks – only mesh or clear backpacks (with solid backs) are allowed for all Pre-K through 12th-grade students. Rolling backpacks aren’t allowed on any campus.
