Bachelor Degree from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas
+18 years teaching k-12
I am finishing my fourth year of teaching choir at Woodrow Wilsom Junior High
Prior to working here in Dayton, I was the music teacher for Bertram Elementary in the Burnet CISD school district where I taught over four hundred students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. My third, fourth and fifth grade students performed throughout the year for various holidays including Veteran's Day, Halloween, and Christmas. My first and second graders performed on a spring program and my kindergarten students sang songs for their graduation ceremonies.
As an educator, I have worked in many capacities. I have worked as a librarian, a secretary, a PEIMs clerk and an office manager. I have taught First grade Reading, Second Grade Reading, and Music at all levels including elementary music, instrumental ensembles, and middle school choir. I am a certified instructional assistant and a certified digital educator. Education and learning is my passion and I strive to foster a safe educational environment that leads to student growth and success.
Hello! My name is Michelle Heckaman and I am a choir director at Wilson Junior High. I am married to Kevin Heckaman and together we have two sons-twins. I have been in education for more than eighteen years and have worked in almost every area, including Administrative Assistant, Instructional Assistant, First and Second Grade Reading Recovery, Pre-K through Fifth Grade Music and Middle School Choir. My life is revolved around my love for children and music. My hope is to instill that love of music to students in my classes.
